Purpose of Establishment
The Jungwon National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage conducts systematic surveys and research on remains of the Jungwon culture, which are distributed throughout Chungcheongbuk-do, Gangwon, and some parts of Gyeongsangbuk-do. Thanks to these efforts, we have been accumulating much-needed primary resources and data on the Jungwon culture for the benefit of researchers and members of the public.
In particular, our mission consists in reconstructing the cultural legacies of our ancestors through mid- to long-range research projects and then presenting them to the public as vestiges of Korea’s proud cultural heritage. Examples of our research projects include the establishment of a research infrastructure for the Jungwon cultural sphere, for Jungwongyeong, and for the old tumuli of the region.
Our institute is dedicated to providing primary resources through continuous research on Jungwon’s cultural heritage and to developing effective methods of conserving and managing our cultural heritage.
