The division surveys and researches intangible heritage systems of other countries to strengthen its research capabilities and cooperative ties with foreign institutions as well as to cope with international trends and policy directions. Toward this purpose, the division signed an agreement to exchange research with the Intangible Cultural Heritage Department of the Tokyo Research Institute for Cultural Properties in 2008. Bilateral exchanges of research on intangible heritage and research personnel are under way in accordance with the agreement.
