The Research Division of Archaeology contributes to Korean history research by conducting mid- and long-term academic surveys on major cultural sites and providing support for studies on cultural heritage. It also contributes to progress in Korean archaeological research through publication of archaeological dictionaries and journals, standardization of excavation methods, training of excavators, and field surveys of historical sites. Excavation of overseas sites and international exchanges are also important duties of this division.
